The Premise: Human consciousness has ‘evolved’ over time thanks to the planet’s most effective ‘thinking machine’, the brain. We will travel from the beginning of time to discover how this came about, and attempt to answer, the eternal/perennial questions of: Where do we come from? Where are we going? How long have we got? This is the story of Cradle of Mind.

The Plot: The tools of man’s mind allow him to perceive reality as layered. As mind evolves, awareness peers deeper into these layers of reality. Reality has a horizontal and a vertical plane, which allows us to contextualise reality through the passage of time, whilst at the same time being embedded in the ‘eternal now’ of our existence, or the so-called ‘human condition’.

Each human’s reality completes a trajectory through a lifetime, with a beginning, middle and an end. A lifetime is like a storyline with plots, a text, subtext, context and pretext.

Through the Cradle of Mind we will discover and explore the ‘patterns that connect – that, through ancient mythmaking and ‘modern’ sensemaking, gives meaning to our experienced reality, and our awareness and interpretation of these experiences.

We trace humanity’s timelines through the ages and investigate the technologies of mind deployed by man to translate, understand and describe his/her environment, experiences and states of consciousness.

We will speculate what these states of consciousness entailed by tracing the universal paths, habits and practices of the ancient and modern-day shamans and healers, prophets and priests; recorded history through myths, beliefs, philosophies and legends; societies and their cultural products/heritage; the rise of technology, machines, media and augmented realities; the science of consciousness, genes and memes; and the cycles and rhythms of life itself, and our place within it, on planet earth.

The traces of the human mind at work can be found in stone carvings, rock art, ancient habitats, relics and belief systems. This gave rise to modern-day skyscrapers, planet-altering technologies, global communication systems, weapons of mass destruction, and medicines to (potentially) prevent human extinction.

Have we evolved fast enough to grasp our own achievements and achieve our destiny, whatever that might be. The human mind at work has unleashed awesome powers but also great responsibilities to benefit all mankind and those who share the planet with us.
